Thoughtful Thursday: LinkedIn Challenge

linkedinWe usually send this out as a Manic Monday tip, but decided this month we’d go for a Thoughtful Thursday instead. This month’s productivity tip relates to LinkedIn and is time sensitive (see below for details). I’ve had a LinkedIn profile for a number of years, but really didn’t recognize the value of it for job search until a couple of years ago. Since that time, several of us on my team have updated our profiles and have created a training series for our clients around using LinkedIn.

This leads us to today’s resource!

One of the ways that I worked on my profile last year was by participating in the LinkedIn Challenge. It is 21 days long and you receive LinkedIn tips from 10 different LinkedIn experts from all over the world. The best part is that it’s free! In addition to the tips, you’re also getting the online community the Challenge creates to interact and ask questions.

So, how could you use this resource? I could see you using it in two ways. First, if you work with job seekers and haven’t updated your profile, this will give you the impetus to do so while learning a few tips for your clients in the process. You’re enhancing your professional profile while gaining experience and resources for your clients.

The second would be to share the LinkedIn Challenge information with your job seekers directly so they can participate on their own. When the challenge starts, tips are emailed to those that register and participation is self-directed. The online community allows for a built in feedback mechanism. This saves you time, and more importantly, allows you to focus on other aspects of service delivery. Either option is a win-win all the way around!

If you decide to participate, please let us know how it goes. We look forward to hearing from you. Have a productive rest of the week!
